As well as stabilising and sealing smooth or uneven surfaces to prevent further water ingress, wood primers also serve to assist with the adhesion of repair resins and ultimately strengthen the wood fibres. This is especially useful for rough, sawn timber and end grains. Wood primers are 2-component products, typically in small bottles labelled A+B with a specific mix ratio that's blended together and brush-applied then left to dry for a set period of time before resin filler can be used.
